THE MALAR LIFTING
While the cervico-facial lifting operates on the lower part of the face: the jaws, the neck and the low part of the cheeks, the malar lifting modifies the middle part: the cheekbones, the cheeks and the lower eyelids. It’s a lifting which treats the middle of the face often called vertical lifting. The surgery is carried out on men as well as women.
The surgery technique is associated with the endoscopic browlift or a blepharoplasty. Other surgeries can then be done with this lifting: bleparoplasty, cervico-facial lifting, endoscopic browlift, injections, peelings, dermabrasions…
Aspirin and related medicine are forbidden during the2 weeks before the surgery.
THE OPERATION OF THE VERTICAL LIFTING
The surgery lasts between 2 and 4 hours, depending if there are other surgeries combined.
The anesthesia is either a general one, either it is a local with sedation. Hospitalization is one day or one or two nights.
The incisions are very short and in the hair (so that the scars are invisible) and will enable the endoscope to go through them.
With the endoscopic lifting the surgeon will then peel of the skin, then the temples deeply, the cheekbones, the cheeks down to the corner of the lips. The skin is thus stretched in order to eradicate the eyes’ wrinkles, lift the eyebrow and the cheekbones and eliminate the jowls. Staples and resorbable sutures are usually used to fix the muscles tension until total healing which lasts several months.
With the vertical lifting the surgeon goes through the upper eyelids, the skin detachment is done on the orbital edge down to the superior dental arch.
Oedema and bruising are the main consequences and their duration depends on each patient. The dressing will be taken off in the first 3 days; staples and sutures from the 10th day.
Oedema can last for a few months but the patient can work but one should know that oedema is more important than with a classical lifting.
As with any surgery complications are possible but rare (hematoma, infections, anesthetic problems).
Specific complications are rare but possible:
- Healing anomalies
- Hair drop
- Hair or brow itching
- Extremely rare paralysis which will only be temporary; most of the times it is only a sensitivity diminution
The result will be natural after one year and the face looks young. The embellishment and youthful effect is obvious 2 weeks after the surgery in spite of the swelling.
One year is necessary before the tissues are smooth and before the final result.
